Many times we think that focusing on gaining muscle mass is only for bodybuilders or people looking to have impressive muscles. Nothing could be further from the truth, because all men and women must allocate a part of our physical training to gain muscle mass, whether using equipment, free weight or our own body.

The benefits of developing muscle mass are many, not only on a physical level since a body with muscle looks young and healthy, but also in our health. We present three benefits of building muscle mass that will make you start a routine today.

  1. Increase your metabolism and burn more fat.  Maintaining our muscles requires more energy expenditure by speeding up your metabolism. When we do not eat a healthy diet, it is restrictive or with a deficiency of some of the macro or micro nutrients and you do not exercise, we will possibly lose weight, but not only from fat, but also from muscle, making our metabolism slow. Therefore, if you want to have a fast metabolism, develop your muscles.
  2. Avoid injury.  Exercising our muscles helps the density of our bones increase, avoiding fractures. Strong muscles will protect our bones from injury.
  3. Control your sugar levels. Resistance exercises help you lower blood sugar levels, more efficiently transporting glucose from the blood to your muscles so it can be used for energy.

Incorporate at least three days of resistance exercise into your exercise routine. As we mentioned in previous lines, you can use braces, free weight, or your own weight. Some considerations to take into account for building muscle mass are:

  • Always stay hydrated
  • Rest and sleep for at least eight hours a day
  • Eat natural foods that include protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals
  • Perform multi-joint exercises where you work several muscle groups
